I’m converting a room from clutter storage back into usable space and it needs more lighting. It had some old 2-bulb fixtures I’d outfitted with bright CFLs but it’s still not enough.

So I went to the hardware store and worked out a quick design based on whatever plumbing and electrical parts I could find in stock…

These bare LEDs can be harsh to look at directly, so I also got a “puzzle lamp” kit which is basically just a stack of plastic pieces that can be assembled into a zillion different lampshade designs. After tinkering with them for a while I found a configuration that slips onto one of the bulbs pretty well.

Bright as heck and only 60 watts. That ought to do it.

Now that I know this works, I’ll have to build a second one for the other half of the room. I’ll probably also do something for the foyer since the little chandelier in there is chipped in several spots and hangs so low that people have hit their head on it.
