I had my first major plant losses of the year. It was really hot, which makes the plants a bit floppy, and then it rained, which makes the plants a lot heavier. The straps holding up several large Kabloom stalks came loose and the stalks fell over to the ground. I was able to recover and re-strap a few of the stalks, but most of the really big ones completely snapped off.

I know from previous years that this variety can reach 8 feet, so I’d already been pinching off the stalks to keep the height down; but apparently that wasn’t enough.

Other than that the beds continue to grow and many of the plants have at least one flower opening.

I still have to do nightly beetle patrols. If there’s a toad hanging out nearby I just toss the beetles in front of it for quick disposal.

In addition to the previously-shown nursery web spider, I’ve recently seen multiple wolf spiders running around with a pile of spiderlings on their back.
